
Maycee is a multipotentialite HMong American woman who practices powerlifting techniques at 3 a.m., a personal trainer, a writer, a speaker, and a performing artist. She has discovered what it truly means to use the “power of visualization” and “grit” to assist her in balancing life, work, volunteering, pursuing higher education, health & fitness, and inspiring individuals to become the best version of themselves.
A graduate from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Maycee received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Science in Counseling & Student Personnel. She began her career working in Student Affairs to inspire students to think outside of the box to pursue their dreams. Maycee continuously encourages her students to try it all and to not limit themself to one role, whether to be their own CEO or an educator to inspire many students. As an educator, she first started her career at Minnesota State University, Mankato, working with Undergraduate students and later transitioned to work at the University of Minnesota with the College of Pharmacy inspiring Doctorates of Pharmacists to care for their patients through empathy and compassion. As an educator and a writer, she was recognized as an Honorary Author from Minnesota State University, Mankato, in 2020. Her book where she edited and compiled, “A New Journey: Hmong College Student Experiences” provided HMong students a platform to share their stories of being a student of color in higher education.
For the past 10 years Maycee has made the commitment to serve the community and empower women through self-discovery, self-love, and owning one’s truth. Her volunteering years started in 2012 with the Mankato Area Public Schools. In 2016, Maycee became the first HMong American woman recipient of the Bill Webster Community Service Award presented by the Psychology Department from Minnesota State University, Mankato. In 2017, she was recognized by the Counseling and Student Personnel Program from MNSU, Mankato, as a prominent leader in Student Affairs by teaching students to bridge the gap between pursuing higher education while still embracing their cultural roots. Maycee’s mission is to inspire young women and teach them to be authentic, to show up as leaders, and to be bold yet fierce.
Known for her ability to connect with others and her skills to transform the lives of students, Maycee brings in a wealth of knowledge from her 8+ years in higher education and experiences in different paths of her life. Her involvement in the community since she started college at Minnesota State University, Mankato, is a testament to her willingness to make a positive impact on the lives of others and those around her. Her speaking engagement topics included: exploring self-love, discovering multiple identities, leadership in academics, and empowerment for self and others. What she loved most was hosting community workshops to further educate the youth about higher education and empower individuals to step into their highest self. Maycee is no stranger to inspiring others to go after their desires and achieve academic and personal success.
As a dedicated professional who is driven by her passion for helping small businesses flourish in the contemporary socio-economic landscape. Maycee’s unique approach combines the art of storytelling, the precision of grant writing, and the finesse of creative design to provide exceptional assistance to businesses. In May 2020, Maycee earned her Contract Law Certificate from Harvard University. This pivotal step in her career sharpened her understanding of contract law, equipping her to better guide small businesses in their contractual undertakings. She's adept at contract creation for small businesses and bringing clarity to intricate legal processes and negotiations.
Maycee's work extends to the local HMong community, where she has educated artists about the importance of comprehensive and coherent contracts for performances and sponsorships. Her contributions have impacted influential public figures within the community, including HMong International Singer and Songwriter, Yasmi, and HMong Comedian, Ah Her. By assisting these artists in their business endeavors and artistic pursuits, Maycee aids in the growth and recognition of the HMong cultural heritage. Alongside her business writing expertise, Maycee has an innate affinity for writing. She believes in the power of words to weave compelling narratives that captivate and persuade. This passion sparked the inception of her writing company, Exquisite Writing Services. The company offers a wide array of writing services to cater to the diverse needs of small businesses and individuals. Each endeavor she undertakes is driven by her unwavering commitment to making a significant difference in the world of small businesses.
Maycee has devoted her life to empowering women through holistic health and personal growth. Her online personal training business, Alter Ego Athletics, focuses on mind, body, and soul wellness, inspired by her own strength journey under coach James Vang, a pioneering Hmong Powerlifter. Maycee's unique approach involves combining physical strategies with the craft of creating an alter personality, encouraging self-discovery, resilience, and full potential realization. Her lessons in the power of visualization and self-care have become central to her message, as she believes they are key to personal empowerment.
Beyond fitness, Maycee's passion extends to mentoring and aiding young women in building unshakeable self-confidence. Her work has not gone unnoticed, earning her the Women of Courage and Vision Award from Minnesota State University's President's Commission on the Status of Women multiple times. Driven by strength and empathy, Maycee finds immense satisfaction in watching her mentees flourish through physical activity and healthy living. Maycee's artistic talents have set her apart as a vibrant and creative individual. In 2017, she was awarded the Best Traditional Outfit by the International Student Association from Minnesota State University, Mankato, reflecting her appreciation for diverse traditions. She further showcased her talents by securing 2nd Place at the 2nd annual Mankato's World's Got Talent competition with a breathtaking solo Bollywood dance and winning the Best Music award in 2019 for her fusion of traditional and contemporary Bollywood songs. In 2022, Maycee's singing was brought into the spotlight as she sang the National Anthem at the Hmong American New Year and performed a cover song of “Yim Khiav Yim Plhis by Co Xyooj” to welcome the New Year of 2023 at the Amazing Grace Ministry Hmong New Year. Her dedication to education and creative arts, along with her ability to blend cultural elements seamlessly in her performances make her story an inspiration to all. Her journey encourages others to embrace their passions and explore their creative potential, truly reflecting her multifaceted talents and achievements.

Deeply influenced by the mission of the Page Education Foundation, she champions the cause of empowering Minnesota's students of color to aspire to higher education. Since 2012, Maycee has been honored as a Page Scholar and has dedicated her time volunteering as a teacher's assistant at Roosevelt Elementary School, translating her convictions into palpable actions.
